Anglicans Exceed Mission Quota
WELLINGTON. Wed. (P.A.).— New Zealand Anglicans, for the year ended June 30, subscribed £31.134 for missions, the highest amount on record.
Last year’s total was £28,373. The secretary of the New Zealand Anglican Board of Missions (Rev. W. S. Southward) said today that all of the seven dioceses exceeded the quotas allocated to them to raise. The amount budgeted for was £27 000 and this had been exceeded by £4134. Tire total subscribed was also £2761 more than was given last year.
Two years ago the Board of Missions embarked upon a plan to raise the total for missions from £25.000 to £30.000 in five years by stepping up the quota over the seven dioceses by £IOOO a year. Actually the target had been achieved in two yeai'S.
Totals subscribed by the various dioceses, with the figures fpr the last year given in parentheses, are:— Auckland £5829. (£5356); Christchurch £6913 (£6522); Dunedin £3195 f £2930): Nelson £2730. (£2580); Waiapu £3874, (£3054); Waikato £2027.. f£ 18261: Wellington- £6564). (£6103>: extra Diocesan. £4 (£2).
In addition to the amount of £3l. 34 received for the year, approximately £ISOO was also given by churchpeople to*the board for purposes outside the missions’ target.
The annual meeting of the Board of Missions will be held in Wellington in August.
