Canterbury Stamp Issue

WELLINGTON. Wed. (P.A.).— Designs for the Canterbury centennial stamp issue have been accepted amd tenders for the production of the stamps are being invited in the United Kingdom, said the Postmaster-General (Mr Hackett) today. He added that the colours of the stamps had yet to be decided, but the subjects of the selected designs, with the names of the designers were:—

Id: (J. Berry. Wellington), view of Canterbury University College showing the memorial hall. 2d; (L. C. Mitchell, Wellington), symbolic design featuring the arrival of pioneer women on the crest of Lyttelton Hills, and also the cairn erected to their memory. 3d: (J. A. Johnstone, Christchurch), featuring John Robert Godley, a founder of Canterbury, taken from the Christchurch statue with a representation of the early immigrant ship Cressy in the background. 6d: (J. Berry), featuring Christchurch Cathedral.

The Minister added that awards for designs of high merit were being made to E. A. Aubin, J. D. Allingham and R. Miller (Dunedin), F. R. Bock (Wellington) and Miss I. M. Dickson (Christchurch).
