State Insurance Charges Higher
AUCKLAND, Tue. (Sp.).—Employers’ liability insurance will be subjected to an increase of about £4OO in the premium charged by the State Fire and Accident Insurance Office this year as compared with the previous year’s charges of another company. This was reported by the acting chairman of the Auckland Power Board (Mr J. A. Steele) at the annual meeting yesterday..
The secretary (Mr N. M. Speer) said he had written to the Auckland manager of the State Fire and Accident Office, advising that the rate of £2/10/- per cent for the main item, cover of linesmen and general staff, was considerably in excess of the rate previously paid by the board for this class of insurance.
He had inquired whether the correct rate had been charged. The Auckland branch manager had replied that he had referred the matter to the general manager for consideration.
The Waitemata Power Board is also to protest against the assessment of The office, which is £IOB higher than from a private insurance company. Suggesting. that the board should ask for a reduction, the acting secretary (Mr P. G. Smith) said that the state office did notallow the 4 per cent rebate given by private companies to cover annual holidays.
