Maori Lands Sn North

WELLINGTON, Tue. (Sp.).—Machinery and supplies of phosphate will be bought by the Government for the development of 500,000 acres of Maori land, mostly in the 'Auckland Province and including 100,000 in Northland.

The proposals, which axe part of the Government’s scheme for more production, were outlined by the Prime Minister (Mr, Fraser) in an address to the annual conference of the Labour Party last night. ’ ' Mr Fraser said that with the present equipment in the hands of Government departments and private contractors, and with the present phosphate supply, the plan was to develop 200,000 acres in 10 years. However, added amounts of machinery and phosphate would enable the work to be done in five years.
