'Floradora' Chosen Far 1949 Pesenation
"Floradora” is to be the Whangarei Operatic and Dramatic Society’s production this year. Originally ‘The Quaker Girl” was chosen, but orchestral parts were not available and the society has decided to substitute “Floradora,” which is well known to lovers of musical comedy. “The Quaker Girl” . may be offered next year. Containing such well-known numbers as “Tell Me Pretty Maiden,” “Oh My. Delores,” and “I Want to he a Military Man,” is a tuneful comedy and should be a worthy successor to “The Boy” and “The Arcadians.” which set the seal on the society’s success. The cast-required is small compared with other musical comedies, and some difficulty is likely to be experienced in absorbing all the talent offering. This should result, however, in. a strong cast, which will be selected after the script has been read next Thursday night. In addition to newcomers offering for principal parts many have elected for chorus work, and the producer, (Mr P. Everett) should have plenty of material for the new production.
