U.S. Music Firm Accepts Whangarei Composition

MR Phil Pomery, of 17 Cairnfield Road, Whangarei, has had his foxtrot “You Got The Makin’s Of Love,” accepted by an American firm of music publishers on the famed Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, California.

While rambling over the keys on his piano about 12 months ago Mr Pomery hit upon a tune. It pleased him, so he added words. Encouraged by' his gaining third place in a New Zealand song-writing competition some time ago he decided to send his. new song to the United States.

The first firm he sent it to did not accept outside work, having its own team of composers. However, it thought enough of the work to inform another company of Mr Pomery’s song, and' this firm accepted it. . “This department has been notified of the issuance to you of sheet music publication contracts for the song ‘You Got the Makin’s of Love,”’ wrote the Hollywod company. Mr Pomery immediately had the song copyrighted in every country except America. To do this he had to procure one United States dollar. This proved to be no easy task. However, after much effort, he did procure one, and sent it away. The song is now copyrighted throughout the world.
