Direct Action Threatened
AUCKLAND, Fri. (P.A.).—Railway tradesmen at Otahuhu are threatening direct action as a protest against Government delay in recognising their grievances. A largely-attended meeting yesterday carried unanimously the following resolution: “This branch of the Railways Tradesmen’s Association, in view of the delay by the Government in settling the margins and anomalies question, has decided that, if a decision has not been given within two weeks, the national executive be called together to organise direct action, in order to place our position before the public.” Railway tradesmen say many of them have to pass exacting examinations, yet the wage margin between them and semi-skilled workers is only about lid an hour.
