Cochrane's Promise
No more “thrustful back than Cochrane, the Hikurangi halfback, has been seen in the three senior games played at Rugby Park this season. Against Old Boys on Saturday, Cochrane figured in a number of beautiful incisive runs from the base of the scrum, tearing the Old Boys inside line to pieces and causing their supporters much concdPn. The obvious coordination between his quick-thinking brain and lieet pair of feet should be encouraged and for this purpose, the club might give serious thought to his potentialities as a five-eighths. Running with the ball is a bad habit for a pivot to adopt, but it would be a pity to cramp Cochrane’s ability on that account. A good service from the forwards through the half to a five-eighths like Cochrane, would make all the difference to the Hikurangi team with its preponderance of new faces. A contrast in halfback styles is provided by M. Macnay, of Hora Hora, and Richardson, of City. Macnay concentrates on getting the ball away to his five-eighths as smartly as possible—-Richardson who showed so much promise last season, has been specialising in getting (tackled with the ball.
