U.S. Skymasters For Pacific Service ?
SYDNEY, Thu. (11 a.m.).—British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines is expected to ask the Commonwealth Treasury for a dolla'r allocation to buy American Skymaster aircraft for the Pacific service.
The company intends to take over the Pacific service from Australian National Airways on April 21 with two Skymasters, which it expects to buy from ANA. It is reported that British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines hopes to buy four more Skymasters. because Can-adian-built Merlin Skymasters are not yet available and British Tudor aircraft have proved impracticable. British Government civil aviation officers in Melbourne are understood to have suggested the purchase of British fiyingboats of a new pattern now on the production line. Four Skymasters would cost about $1,000,000.
