Long-Term Buying Of Australian Food

CANBERRA, Thu. (Noon)—Britain is seeking long-term contracts with Australia to buy more food, particularly meat, butter and other dairy products, fats, dried fruits and eggs. Three members of the British Food Ministry delegation saw the Minister of Commerce and Agriculture (Mr Pollard) and outlined plans which will be discussed when the main body of the delegation arrives on January

23. The delegates told Mr Pollard that Britain could absorb a 50 per cent increase in Australia’s egg production and assured him that Britain would not become a diminishing market for Australian produce. In any long-term agreements, however, Britain wanted provision for a review of prices every 18 months or two years. ]yir Pollard told the delegates he favoured long - term agreements which would allow Australia to plan large-scale expansion of primary industries, but that he would not commit the Government to price adjustment proposals.
