Car Smashed On Railway Line

GREYMOUTH, Sat. (P.A.).—An accident occurred at about 7.30 last evening when a car owned and driven by Mr Frank W. Larconde, of Christchurch, who had with him as passengers, his wife and Mr and Mrs M. Hill, of Christchurch, was struck by the locomotive of a Westport-Reefton train near Inangahua Landing road and rail traffic bridge. No one was injured. Mr Larconde was proceeding to Westport and. mistook the turn-off at the bridge. He ran along the railway lines for a short distance and ori attempting to get back on to the road the car wheels became jammed in the sleepers of the permanent way. The approach of the train forced the passengers and driver to abandon the car which was struck and badly damaged.
