Another Japanese Whaling Expedition
BOSTON, Fri. (10 a.m.) .—Despite objections from the British Common- • wealth and Norway, Japan’s whaling fleet is refitting for another long expedition this year into the Antarctic, says the Christian Science Monitor’s Tokio correspondent. The expedition is expected to be even more profitable than its predecessor. , • Experts of the Supreme Command in Japan estimate that the second whaling trip will result in a decrease of $15,000,000 to American taxpayers for what they are paying out for Japan’s economic recovery. The Monitor also reports that Canada is about to revive her whaling industry in the North Pacific after a lapse of several years. A new company was recently organised in Vancouver. The average catch per season up to 1940 was 300 whales.
