Higher Prices At London Wool Sales

(Rec. 11 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 3. The final sale of the fifth series of London wool sales was held today with a catalogue of 14,607 bales, of which 14,216 were sold. New Zealand submitted 5178 bales and Australia 7557. The market closed on a firm note under keen home trade and Continental competition, and offerings were well cleared. Throughout the series a total of 110.000 bales were offered and 105.000 were sold. The home trade bought 65.000 bales and the Continent 40,000 bales. The tone of the market has been very firm, with very keen competition. Best sorts were from 15 to 20 per cent and others five to iO per cent higher, compared with the closing prices of the fourth series.
