U.S. Interests Prevent Indian-Jap. Trade

(Rcc. noon) TOKIO, Sopt. 5. Allegations that General MacArthur’s headquarters were influenced by “American vested interests” in tying up the Japanese cotton trade, thereby excluding Indians, were made today by Mr Tulsidas Kilachand, head of the Indian Mission to Japan. The mission, which will leave Japan tomorrow, came prepared to sell 394.000 bales of raw cotton immediately. It was able to arrange the sale of only 170,000 bales at “most unsatisfactory prices.”

Under an agreement with the Japanese Board of Trade the cotton will be delivered before October 31. Mr Kilachant said the mission had come to Japan nine weeks ago pre--1 pared to supply Japan with many commodities needed from the sterlingarea.

“I regret I have found that American vested interests will not allow a free flow of trade between the two countries, particularly when those interests are involved.”
