HA. Ladies’ Golf Championship

Excellent entries from a wide area are in for the North Auckland ladies’ championship, a three-day tourney to be held at Mt Denby next week. The 72 lowest handicaps will be accepted, and the' draw of play will be published on Thursday. WHANGAREI LADIES The annual Presidents v Captains match was played by the ladies of the Whangarei Golf Club at the weekend, resulting in a win by two games for the Captain’s team. A Stableford was played. Captain’s Trophy, best scores:—Mrs Hawken 34, Mrs McMillan 34, Mrs Hawken winning on the count-back.

President’s Trophy: Mrs I. B. Stewart 32 points. Mrs O. M. Georgeson by defeating Mrs I. B. Stewart won the final round of the Trembath Cup. In the semifinals Mrs I. B. Stewart beat Miss D. Hall 3 and 2, Mrs Georgeson beat Mrs Reynolds 4 and 3.

WHAU VALLEY ENTERTAINS The Whau Valley Golf Club entertained the Maungatapere and Maungakaramea clubs on its links on Saturday, the occasion providing a ;most pleasant day both from the playing and social viewpoints. The visitors were welcomed by the club president (Mr L. C. Going) and replies were made’ by Mr C. Stevens, (Maungatapere) and Mr F. McCullough (Maungakaramea). The quarter-finals of the Powell Cup Competition, played at Whau Valley at the week-end resulted: D. P. North beat S. Clark; G. Clarke beat A. B. Campbell; N- Smith beat A. Rolfe-Smith; R. Cross beat H. Lovegrove.
