Lusk Shield Match Held At Waitaingi

(Special) KAWAKAWA, This Day. Three years ago Mr D. A. Lusk, of Kawakawa, presented a shield to be played for annually between teams from Waitangi and Kaikohe golf clubs, the matches to be held alternately on each course.

That first year it was played at Kaikohe, and the home team took possession. Last year’s floods precluded any contest. Yesterday Kaikohe members journeyed to Waitangi for the annual fixture—and lost' the shield by 2(1 matches to 19. One shower and an exceptionally strong but brief “blow’’ were experienced about midday, but on the whole the weather was fine.

The visiting ladies ran out winners from the Waitangi ladies by eight matches to six. Both ladies and men played singles in the morning and four-ball best-balls in the afternoon. Waitangi men more than evened by taking 20 matches against Kaikohe’s 11. The locals won 12 singles and lost nine, won eight four-balls and lost two. A pleasing lunch and afternoon tea helped to make the day an unquestioned success from every viewpoint. Next year, the contest will be held on the Kaikohe links. Glading, won the South Auckland amateur golf championship at the St. Andrews links on Saturday, when he defeated J. Q. Casey, 3 and 1. in the final.
