Sea Cadets' Trip In R.N. Carrier

(Special) WELLINGTON, This Day. Divided among the seamen boys’ messes in the ship, 12 young Wellington sea cadets had the experience of their lives when they took passage in the aircraft-carrier Theseus from Wellington to Auckland. The boys not only saw how every department of a modern warship functions, but also took a portion of the day-to-day work. After performing their share of mess duties on the first day out the boys spent the remainder of the day under the charge of a ship’s officer and chief petty-officer examining activities that ranged from radar rooms to galleys and hangars. When the ship’s company was piped to special stations for entering harbour on arrival at Auckland, sea cadets were indistinguishable, except for their youth, among the hundreds of seamen who lined the sides of the flight deck. They left the carrier on Saturday afternoon and returned to Wellington by train.
