Supervision After Treaty
Japan . . .
(1.30 p.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. The British Commonwealth conference on the peace settlement with Japan resumed discussions today on supervisory machinery that might be required in Japan after the peace treaty. Dr Evatt considers that the peace treaty should establish Allied super viscry authority to consolidate gains already made, ensure observance of the treaty provisions and prevent Japan again preparing for war.
He considers that the authority should have the function of coordinating Japanese economy with that of the Pacific and south east Asiatic regions, that it should contain representatives of all nations now members ot the Far Eastern Commission, that it should sit in Japan, that there should be no power of veto connected with it. and that there should be appropriate supervision of Japanese trade, internal industry and economic organisation until the United Nations are sure of Japanese competence.
