Farmers' Production Costs And Prices

(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. Fanners could not accept lower prices than those which would cover their costs of production and in any case, from a national point of view, New Zealand must be paid for her products in terms of trade. This is the view of the acting Dominion president of the Federated Farmers (Mr H. E. Blyde). He was commenting upon a recommendation for assisting Britain. It had been reported as likely that farmers would accept lower prices for their produce in return for a 44-hour week worked without overtime. Those two factors must be dominant in connection with any agreement made with iho United Kingdom regarding the prices of New Zealand's exports to her, Mr Blyde added.

It did not mean, however, that New Zealand should or would take advantage of a seller’s market to the extent of demanding the prices for produce that were being asked by other countries.
