BASKETBALL
(P.A.) NELSON, This Day. The winners of the three grades at the Dominion basketball championships, Canterbury. Tauranga and Nelson respectively, each went through the tournament unbeaten. Canterbury, with 14 points, won the New Zealand Cup, Auckland, with 10 points, took the Annie Brown Cup for runners-up. Tauranga holds the President’s Shield, while Waikato, runnersup become new holders of the Hayhurst Cup. At the conclusion of the tourney, a North Island team beat the South Island by 17 goals to 12.
