Three Workmen Injured in Fire

(Special)

AUCKLAND. This Day

Three workmen received burns when a 45-gailon drum of benzole caught fire in the factory of Restar (Auckland) Ltd., merchants and tar by-pro-ducts manufacturers, of Onehunga. yesterday. Mr Leslie Allen Bull, aged 30. of 134 Crummer Road. Grey Lynn, was admitted to the Green Lane Hospital suffering from burns to the arms and face, and the two others, Messrs Derrick Alfred Knight, 27. of 12 Horopito Street, Ml Eden, and Robert James Ross, 27. of 19 Mays Road, Te Papapa, were treated for burns to the hands and face and discharged. The three men were working near the benzole at about 2.30 p.m. when it burst into flames.

The single-storey building quickly filled with smoke and Messrs Knight and Ross rushed out of the main door, only a few feet away, and collapsed in the yard. Although there was a large quantity of highly inflammable material in the building, Mr Bull remained behind and attempted to fight the flames with a chemical extinguisher. He was severely burned and had to rush outside a few minutes later. Three machines were sent out and the fire was quickly extinguished before it had spread to the other materials in the factory. Only a few feet of the wooden framework of one wall were burned.
