Deciding Standard Of Highland Donees (P.A.) DUNEDIN. This Day.

“I feel that this drift towards innovations in Highland dancing is accounted for by the passing of the old dancing mdsters. In every centre in New Zealand schools are carried on by young lady teachers who are at thesama time teaching fancy dancing. “Great numbers of these teachers are not of Scottish descent and the result is the introduction of innovations which are destroying the character and dignity of our beautiful Highland dances.”

This is the opinion of Mr A. Sutherland. of Invercargill, expressed as judge of dancing at the annual competitions of the Otago centre of the New Zealand Piping and Dancing Association.
