M.P. Not Allowed In Police Barracks
(Special) PALMERSTON N., This Day
• Mr Ormond Wilson, M.P. for Palmerston North, was refused permission to inspect Jhe police barracks to investigate reports of extravagant wastage of valuable living accommodation.
Inspector H. J. Joyce, the officer in charge, told him he must first obtain the. sanction of the Commissioner ol Police (Mr J. Cummings). Mr Wilson’s action followed the decision of the Palmerston North C.,y Council last week to make representations to the Minister of Justice (MiMason) regarding the vacant accommodation at the barracks, where some married members of the force are compelled to live as single men, eating in hotels, while cooking and dining facilities lie idle.
It is reported that a police sergeant has been authorised to establish married quarters in the barracks.
