Dutch Minister For Dominion
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The Netherlands Government is to be represented in New Zealand by an 6nvoy extraordinary and Minister plenipotentiary, being the fourth Power to appoint a Minister resident in the Dominion.
It was announced today by the Consul-General (Dr Johkheer van Panhuys) that Dr A. F. li. van Troostenborg do Bruyn will arrive in Wellington towards the end of May. He has already left The Hague. The Consulate-General has already assumed the status of Legation. Dr van Panhuys is remaining as charge d’affaires until the arrival of tile Minister.
He arrived as consul-general from the Legation at Canberra in November, 1945, and will return to The Hague and go on accumulated leave until he receives his next appointment.
Dr van Panhuys said the Pacific was a sphere of much importance to the Netherlands.
With the increase in shipping he anticipated an increase in trade between New Zealand and the Netherlands East Indies and it was hoped that New Zealand would eventually be represented by a Minister in Holland.
