IL WOP Personnel To Be Discharged

Many thousands of Army personnel at present on indefinite leave without pay will receive their discharges shortly. Instructions to this effect have been received from Army. Headquarters by the Southern Military District Headquarters and area offices which will carry out the actual machinery work. The instructions will be put into effect almost immediately. The classes affected are: (a) Personnel of 2/N.Z.E.F., returned to New Zealand from overseas and placed on indefinite leave without pay will be discharged from 2/N.Z.E.F. TEMPORARY STAFF (b) Personnel of the New Zealand Temporary Staff held in area pools or on indefinite leave without pay will be discharged from the Temporary Staff. Those under the age of 40 years on June 1, 1946, and of medical grades I or 11, Avho were formerly on the strength of Territorial units will be transferred to the reserve of the New Zealand defence forces 'at the same time as being discharged from the New Zealand Temporary Staff. * (c) Personnel of the New Zealand Women's Auxiliary Army Corps are to be discharged.

(d) Personnel of the Territorial Force who on June 1, 1946, will have reached the age of 40 years and those under such age who are not of medical grades I or II are to be discharged from the Territorial Force. TWO EXCEPTIONS (c) All persons who are carried on the strength of an area pool and who have not been posted to a unit of the armed forces are to be discharged with the following exceptions : <1) Single personnel who on January 1, • f 1946, will be under the age of 36 years and have never been posted to a unit and who have never been examined by a duly-constituted medical board or. if they were so examined, were classified \as grade I; (2) any person who has failed to render the service required of him under the provisions of the National Service Emergency Regulations. BOARDING AND KIT Officers, including the New Zealand Army Nursing Service and New Zealand Women's Auxiliary Army Corps, are dealt with by notice in the Gazette. The provision of the memorandum do not apply to them. The reason for discharge will be shown in each case. A special order is to be issued by area officers.

Action to complete discharge will not be taken until all administrative requirements such as medical boarding and cleai'ance of kit are completed.
