MacArthur’s Praise For New Zealand Forces
<F.A.J WELLINGTON. This Day The Prime Minister (Ifon. P. Fraser) (has received! the following replies to messages sent by him on the occasion of V-P Day, from General MacArthur: ,! All ranks join with me in cordial -thanks for your inspiring message. The New Zealand forces have performed admirably, as they always do, and have the complete admiration of my entire command. I am grateful indeed to you and to all your countrymen for the unflagging' support you have given throughout the long and arduous campaign now so happily concluded.” From General de Gaulle;- “On this day, which is hallowed by the final collapse of ihe forces of tyranny in the world, the thoughts of the French people turn towards the people of New Zealand, whose valiant sons have fought so gravely*, and whose heroism now receives its most splendid reward. May the brotherhood of arms between France and New Zealand lead our two nations towards fruitful collaboration in the tasks of peace.' 1 Other replies are from Admirals Fraser and Ghormley.
