Oppose Confirmation Of London’s New Bishop
(Rec. 11 a.m.) .LONDON, Aug. 21. The National Union of Protestants is opposing the contwmation tomorrow of Dr. Wand as Bishop of London. The union, in a protest to the Vicar General, alleges that “as an extreme AngloCatholic, Dr. Wand is not a fit and proper person for the position. His religion is not the religion of the Church of England as established by law.”
The protest adds that Dr. Wand failed to carry out his declaration in his former diocese of Bath and Wells, that he would banish all erroneous and strange doctrines contrary to the Church of England. Although Dr. Wand was prepared to give a similar undertaking when consecrated Bishop of London, there was no reason to expect that he would be more faithful to such a promise than in his former diocese.
