Canadian Defence Minister
(Rec. 3.30 p.m.) OTTAWA, Aug. 21
The Prime Minister (Mr Mackenzie King) announced that the Navy Minister (Mr Abbott) has been appointed Defence Minister, succeeding General McNaughton. Mr Abbott retains the Navy portfolio. General McNaughton accepted the Canadian chairmanship of the joint Hemispheric Defence Board, of which the Mayor of New York (Mr La Guardia) is United States chairman.
