Mossbank Mine Closing

(P.A.)

INVERCARGILL, This Day

The Mossbank coal mine will close down on September 211, according to a notice posted at the mine on Tuesday. The employers refuse to make any statement at present, but it is suggested in another ruiarlcr that the mine is being closed because" it is an uneconomic proposition.

It is believed the Government has suggested that the men should run'the mine on a co-operative basis, but approval was net given by the miners. The daily output of the mine is about 100 tons. About 50 men arc affected, and it is staled that it will be almost impossible to absorb all of them in other mines under present working conditions.
