Impressive Military Parade On Saturday

In tribute to the United Nations, a flag day is being held throughout New Zealand on Saturday, and Whangarei will not provide an exception. Although a military parade was first considered only this week, the arrangements have been carried out with despatch and there is every indication that the ceremony will be impressive and in keeping with the significance of the event.

Units from all military organisations in the area, as well as civilian personnel will take part in the parade which will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Lieutenant-Coionel J. C. E. Wyatt will, command the parade and the salute will be taken at the Municipal Chambers by Major-General H. E. Barrowclough. Flags of the United Nations are to be displayed at the Municipal Chambers and occupants of buildings and of residences have been invited to cooperate by displaying any flags of the United Nations at their command. Order of Parade

The route of the parade will be along Walton Street to the Triangle and then up Bank Street past the saluting base. All units have to be assembled at their assembly points at 1.33 p.m. and be ready to move off at 1.40 p.m. Bands will not march but will play in Bank Street for the march past, finally joining the parade after the last unit. Returned nurses and soldiers will lead the parade and they will be followed by an artillery unit, divisional troops, the Independent Infantry Company. the area staff, Horne Guard, school cadets and Women’s War Service Auxiliary. Then will come Whangarei High School girls, Boy Scouts and Cubs, Girl Guides. Boys' Brigade and Girls’ Brigade. The St John’s Ambulance section will bring up the rear of the parade.
