Central Create Surprise In Whangarei Cricket
The surprise defeat of Old BoysNomads by Central, with a margin of 30 runs, was the outstanding feature of Saturday’s games at Kensington, On the other grounds, the School team beat Kamo, and Albion beat Combined Services. Unaccustomed to the turf, some of the players took a long time to settle down, but all were unanimous in their liking for this type of wicket. The two-hour-innings plan adopted at the beginning of the season again proved its worth, and at times some very fast scoring was seen. This was particularly noticeable in the School game against Kamo. Child, for School, made the best knock for the day, a smart 76. He gave one or two chances, but retired undefeated. In one over, he scored 20 runs from five consecutive balls. Excellent Conditions Other good innings were played by Hore (Combined Services), 45; McKenzie (Kamo), 40, and his teammate Fagan, 40; Black (School), 33. On the day, Rasmussen (School), 5 wickets for 16, Nisbet (School), 5 foils, Conway (Albion) 5 for 13, Hore (Combined Services) 5 ior 16, made the best showing among the bowlers. The wickets were in fine brder and playing conditions were excellent, the rain which fell on the previous night not having any appreciable effect on the ground.
