Coastal Steamer Shot Down Bomber

(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 6. Captain W. H. Cable, master of a coastal steamer of 873 tons named the Sturdee Rose, and his crew have received the personal congratulations of the Naval Commander-in-Chief for shooting down a twin-engined German bomber. The ship was attacked about midnight with high explosives and incendiaries. Her gunners were ready and the German aircraft, riddled with bullets, plunged into the sea, only just missing the vessel’s stern. No one was hurt on the coaster.
