High Courage On Attacked Convoy
Tribute to the passengers and crew of ships in a convoy in which he travelled last March was paid by Mr. Lloyd Powell, who was in Whangarei yesterday as examiner for ihe Royal College cf Music. In the Atlantic the convoy was twice subjected to enemy submarine attacks.
Ships were sunk by enemy action and yet aboard the liner on which he travelled there was no sign of panic. There were many womc-n passengers and all remained perfectly fool and courageous when they were called out at night to stand by the lifeboats. At the conclusion of the voyage the passengers had been complimented by the captain on their behaviour. His remarks were echoed by Mr. Powell in an interview yesterday, and he added high praise for the extraordinary discipline and faultless behaviour of the ship’s crew during duty fraught with danger and suspense.
