Daffodil Society Holds Annual Show

On account of the lateness of the season, the entries in the narcissi section at the eighth annual show of the Whangarei Daffodil Society, which opened in the Presbyterian Church Hall this afternoon, were not as numerous as at previous shows. In other sections, however, there were good entries, and the standard of the blooms exhibited was high. The show was opened this afternoon by the Rev. J. Ings and the blooms will be on view till 10 o’clock this evening and from 10 a.m. tomorrow until the same hour in the evening. Hospital Display Perhaps the outstanding features at the show are the displays of Iceland poppies exhibited by Mr. Woods from the Whangarei Hospital gardens, and the narcissi shown in the open classes by Mr. W. Danby, of Thames. The decorative and cut flower sections made a fine display, while, with many of the usual exhibitors in the narcissi section unable to show on account of their bulbs not yet being in bloom, the blooms in this section were not so numerous as at previous shows, but nevertheless those exhibited made a nice showing. Judges in the various sections were: Narcissi, Mr. W. H. Shepherd; decorative, cut flowers, etc., Mrs. W. A. Given and Miss Clark-Walker.
