Broadwood
On Wednesday evening a most enjoya\!e dance was held in tlie Oddfellows’ Hall, in aid of local Red Cross funds. Prizes were won by Mrs. M. Fell and Mr. Toby Holland. Mrs. F. Anderson, of Auckland, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. E. Carman, Broad wood. Mrs. E. Fanelt, of Koluikohu, is visiting her mother, Mrs. F. Holland, of Runa Runs. A visitor in Broadwood is Miss E. Miller, of Palmerston North. It was with regret news was re’celVeil of the passing of the late Mrs. John Ferguson, a pioneer of this district. Miss J. Newman has been holidaying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Newman, Unotole. Sergeants I. Martin, O. E. Edwards, R. Holland, Privates A. Copland, 13. Seymour and J. Mackenzie spent the weekend in Broadwood. Mrs. Bert Seymour and family have returned from an extended holiday in Whangarei. Mrs. Capper, of Auckland, is spending a holiday with her daughter, Mrs. John Mackenzie. Mrs. J. Dotchin has returned from Rawene. Mr. and Mrs. Middleton and family have been holidaying at Miti Miti. Mr. Mervyn Jones left on Monday for training at Narrow Neck. Mr. H. Gray, of Paihia, was a visitor to Broadwood during the weekend. Mrs. E. Kingdon .and children are visiting friends in Kaitaia. Master R. Shepherd is holidaying with his parents in Broadwood. The Broadwood branch of the League of Mothers held their monthly meeting in the Oddfellows’ Hall recently. Mrs. Downey presided over the meeting. An interesting and instructive address, prepared by Ji,lrs. Copland, was read by Mrs. W. Newman. Mrs. K. Newman gave n demonstration of the spinning of wool on a spinning wheel. Afternoon tea was served by ladies of the 'I e Karae group.
