Steeples Favourite May Have Been Doped
MELBOURNE, July 13. Police are investigating the supposed doping of the V.R.C. Grand Lfational Steeplechase favourite. Cheery Jack, who was scratched by order of the stipendiary stewards 24 minutes before the starting of the race at Flemington yesterday. A veterinary surgeon had reported that the horse was not fit to race. Sir Alan Currie, chairman of the Victoria Racing Club Committee, has given orders that no expense be spared to track down the culprits.
