Doomben Cup Winner Sets New Record
BRISBANE, July 13. Showing much improved form. Lord Valentine broke the record in Australia and New Zealand for a mile and three furlongs in winning the Doomben Cup yesterday. > He made a great finishing run and won going away in 2.151' 2 , which is a quarter of a second faster than - the record established by Beauiivre in the same race last year. The favourite was Gold Salute, who was prominent early in the running, but fell back in the last three furlongs and came in eighth.
