Waipu Access Road Deferred
i With a view to assisting Misses E [and A. McKenzie, of Waipu, to secure [suitable access to their farm, the Whn- \ ngarei County Council inquired from ithe P.W.D. the position regarding this [access and the probability of a grant j being secured to form the road. I In reply the department stated that [the estimated cost of forming the pre(sent legal road was £3OO but suggested an alternative access route. The views of the council were sought by the department on this question and also the amount the county was prepared to contribute towards the cost of the work. On the motion of Mr A. J. McKay the whole matter was left for the engineer to bring down a comprehensive report to the next meeting. It was also decided to make an application for a Government grant of £7s—£3 for £1 for this work. Subsidy Offers for Waipu South Road. A ratepayer for nearly 40 years and how milking 100 cows on her section. Miss Ruby McLean, of South Road. Waipu, had written to the PublicWorks Department requesting assistance in the provision of an all-weather access. She stated that half a mile of the old road was impassable and needed metalling. The council’s intentions as regards to roads and the financial assistance the council would be prepared to find was sought by the department in a lettei to the council. Mr A. J. McKay said that, this letter was from Miss McLean on behalf ot her father. Previously, Mr McKay said, the council had made an offer of a £1 for £3 subsidy to the P.W.D. This offer is to be renewed. An application lias been made for a grant.
