Third Echelon Quota Brings North Contribution To 1500
Nearly 1000 European and Maori recruits have been despatched from Northland in the First and Second Echelons of the Second Expeditionary Force and in the Maori Battalion, and with the quota for the Third Echelon the total will be brough up to nearly 1500.
In the First Echelon 419 troops were sent from the Northland area. The Second Echelon contribution was 309.
Two hundred and sixty-three Maoris have been sent to camp for trianing with the Maori Battalion, The Northland quota for the Third Echelon has now been fixed at 478, this figure being inclusive of a further 115 men which Whangarei Army Headquarters have been notified are required for all units of
the Army service. Notification increasing the quota by this figure and stating that men were required for all branches was received at Whangarei today.
