Women On First War Office Casualty List
LONDON. January 30.
The first army casualty list of the war has been published 'by the War Office. There are 758 names in the list.
Of those who died, three were women—two members of the Auxiliary Territorial Force and cne nurse.
The killed and wounded in the first four months of the war numbered 40, the rest of the deaths being from disease .and other causes. Of the dead some lost their lives when the liner Yorkshire was torpedoed.
Accidental Deaths
Those reported as having died were victims of accidents or disease at home and overseas, says .a 8.0. W. message.
According to informed quarters, the London death rate per 1000 men serving remained practically stationary over the first four months, and is only slightly higher than the pre-war average.
About 70 per cent of the accidental deaths occurred in Britain, for which blackouts to some extent have been responsible.
