Plymouth Gives Tremendous Welcome To Ajax
(Received noon.) LONDON, January 31. H.M.S. Ajax has arrived at Plymouth and proceeded up the harbour. The citizens of Plymouth gave a tumultuous reception to the Ajax, in response to an invitation from the Commander-in-Chief of the Western Approaches to join in a welcome to mark the warship’s part in the defeat of the Admiral Graf Spee. The Admiralty has telegraphed to the Ajax congratulations on its safe return home.
Caring For Wounded,
It is revealed that after the action against the Graf Spee the British cruiser Exeter was met at her destination by a hospital ship in charge of Dr. Pennington. The British community at Buenos Aires fitted out the ship, and is hearing the cost also of the medical care and treatment of the wounded. A tribute is paid to the splendid work done. ■ Seventy-four wounded men from the Exeter, four from the Ajax and three from the Achilles were treated
