Woman Burned.—Shock and • burns necessitating her admission to hospital were suffered by Mrs. R. J. Wiles, of Roseneath Flats, Wellington, when a gas ring set alight fumes from petrol while she was -cleaning clothes. The services of the fire brigade were also required.
Rotorua Police Station. —The Minister in Charge of the Police Department (Mr. Fraser) will visit Rotorua shortly for the purpose of laying the foundation stone of fbe new Rotorua police station. The date of the ceremony has not yet been definitely fixed.
Unknown Man Brcwned. —An elderly man who fell into the harbour from the Waterfront Road, Auckland, last evening was drowned. He was seen to fall by two men who went to his assistance, but in spite of prolonged efforts at .artificial respiration he could not be revived. His name has not yet been ascertained.
Benzine Lamp Explodes.— Serious burns to the face were suffered by Mr. Raymond Webster Starr, aged 21, a signwriter, of Frankton, when a benzine lamp he was using exploded. He was admitted to the Waikato Hospital.
Christchurch Heat.— Christchurch people again sweltered in the heat yesterday, the maximum temperature of 82.6 degrees being the highest recorded at the Magnetic Observatory this year. Several times this month the 80 degrees mark had been passed, 81.5 degrees being recorded on January 11 and 22, and 81.4 degrees on January 12.
