True Position Regarding Hay-Baling Wire
Owing to the lack of baling wire, Northland farmers are faced with the possible loss of several thousands of bales of hay. Advice to this effect has been telegraphed by the Whangarei Primary Production Council to the National Council. Wellington, and the request made that immediate attention be given to the despatch of supplies, to Northland.
The National Council has replied that no known supplies of baling wire are available. Use of twine lashing prepared for hay feeding by a New Zealand firm is suggested.
Statements have been made that ample supplies of baling wire were available in Australia, but could not be lifted on account of lack of exchange. Investigation by the Whangarei Primary Production Council revealed that this was not the true facts.
The Australian Government would not permit export of baling wire, although, for this purpose, ample exchange was available.
