Says S. Africa Must Smash Link With Britain
(Received 1 p.m.) CAPETOWN, January 24. “There is no other path but to end not only our participation in the war, but our British connection,” said the leader of the Nationalist Party (Dr. Malan) during the debate on General Hertzog’s’ motion “That the time has arrived for the war with Germany to be ended and peace restored.” Dr. Malan likened General Smuts to Cecil Rhodes. Both had failed to use their opportunities to unite the English and the Afrikaans.
