Sheep Worrying
Arising from a report on the discussion which took place at the Counties’ Conference on sheep worrying and dog taxation fees, the Mangonui County Council decided to obtain as much information ,as possible from individual farmers whose sheep had been worried by dogs for the purpose of forwarding it to the secretary to the Counties’ Association. With this information, the association would have grounds on which the Government could be urged to pass amending legislation relating to dog registration fees. The clerk was instructed, to insert an advertisement in the press inviting farmers who had suffered losses of sheep from dogs to forward particulars to the county office. Cr. Holder said it was necessary that the widest publicity should be given to the efforts the council was making to restrict the number of worthless and dangerous dogs, so that information would be forthcoming enabling them to make out a strong case for consideration by the Counties’ Association and the Government.
