Waimate N. Pageant Approaches

KAIKOHE. This Day.

Preparation for the staging of the Waimate North Centennial Pageant on January 2 are well in hand. With close on a thousand people taking official parts in the pageant, a considerable amount of organising has been necessary, but this has now been completed, and all the main characters are preparing for what will be one of the most impressive pageants held in New Zealand.

It is perhaps unique that over twelve people taking part in the celebrations will be playing the parts of their own ancestors, who were at one time connected with the colonisation of the north.

Apart from the local residents in the Bay of Islands, several prominent New Zealanders, including the Prime Minister and Archbishop Averill will also take part.

The pageant is to depict, in a unique manner, the period from the arrival of the Maoris in 1350 to the termination of the Great War in 1918.

Several scripts were prepared for the function, and every endeavour has been made by those responsible whereever possible to depict events exactly as they occurred.
