More Sweet Pea Judgings

Tangiteroria Championships,

In spite of the gales and heavy rains which preceded it, there was a good display at the schools’ sweet pea show held at Tangiteroria yesterday. The champion bloom was excellent. It was of the Reflection (blue) variety, with six blooms on one stalk. A demonstration of posy making was given by the judges, Mesdames Simons and Inkster, and the boys and girls then shoy/ed their artistry in the same direction. 1

The'following schools competed for the championship: Waiotama, Kirikopuni, Omana, Tangiteroria, Tangiteroria North and Pukehufa. The result was as follows: —Rachel Nathan (Tangiteroria North), 47 out of a possible of 48), 1; Tuhi Davis (Tangiteroria N.), 44, 2; Nancy Beattie (Tangiteroria) and Annie Nathan (Tangiteroria), 40 each, equal 3; Kathleen Cassidy (Tangiteroria), 36, 4; Ruth Tuhiwai (Tangiteroria N.), 35, and Joseph Cassidy (Tangiteroria), 35, equal 5. District home garden competition: Alwyn Hamlin (Tangiteroria) and George Barnes (Omana), 78 points, equal, 1; Iris Barnes (Omana), 76, 2; Fred Barnes (Omana), 75, 3. Three varieties (two stalks of each): Maurice Nash 1, Mervyn Holster 2, Joan Nash, Pat Thornton and Harold Bramble equal 3, Fay Waterson h.c. Collection: Shirley Waterson 1, Joan Nash 2, Nancy Beattie and Iris Barnes equal 3. Posies; Joan Nash and Patricia Riggs equal 1, Una Rogers, Brenda McLachlan and lan Stewart equal 2, Rachel Nathan, Kevin Beattie and Fred Barnes equal 3, Fay Waterson and Iris Barnes h.c.

Champion blooms: Joan Nash 1, Maurice Nash 2, Pat Thornton 3. One variety: Maurice Nash 1, Fat Thornton 2, Pukehuia School and Kevin Beattie equal 3.

Broadwood School

Following were the awards at the Broadwood School sweet pea show:—

Light colours. —Nola Kjoller 1, Lawrence Newman 2, Lois Middleton 3, Thelma Kjoller h.c. Nine entries.

Mixed colours. —Lawrence Newman 1, Neville Jones 2, Clive Emson 3, Lois Middleton h.c. Fifteen entries.
