Provision for the registration and identification of all aliens now in New Zealand or arriving in New Zealand is contained in the Alien Control Emergency Regulations issued yesterday.
All aliens must, within 14 days, apply at the nearest police-station for registration, and must supply finger prints or other means of identification, as may be required. All changes of name or of residence must immediately be notified. Powers are given for the arrest of aliens where it is deemed necssary. The employment of aliens or naturalised British subjects in loading or unloading a ship or on work on wharves or about ships is forbidden. This does not apply to persons who arrive by ship from overseas. The Change of Name Emergency Regulations forbid any persons to use any name other than that by which he or she was known at the date the regulations came into force, except with the permission of the Minister of Internal Affairs.
