Pleasure Craft For Coast Patrol
Whangarei launch-owners and yachtsmen have offered to undertake patrol duty between Cape Brett and Rodney Point. Decision to this effect was unanimously reached last night.
More than 50 members of the Cruising Club attended a meeting called by the controller of the harbour area, Mr E. L, Whimp, who was appointed to that post last week under the new Whangarei Emergency Precautions organisation.
They expressed willingness to place their craft at the disposal of the organisation. Harbour employees also expressed a desire to co-operate. Register of Local Craft,
A register of all locally-owned craft is to be prepared for the use of the harbour area emergency committee. At Mr Whimp’s invitation, the meeting appointed several new officers to the committee.
Mr W. M. Fraser was appointed deputy-controller, and Mr M. A. McKenzie second deputy, with Mr N. A. Murphy as secretary. Sixteen other committee members were also appointed, and an executive is to be formed at an early date. The committee will have complete control of any special emergency measures necessary in the Whangarei harbour and waterfront area.
The secretary of the Australian Golf Union, Mr Sloan Morpeth, has cabled the New Zealand Golf Association, urging that the proposed visit of Australian golfers be postponed in view of the War.
