Central Wins Good Game From Grammar
A combined Central junior and third grade team defeated Grammar Old Boys 111 (Auckland) in a match played at Kensington Park *by 12 points to six.
During the first 20 minutes Central gained a major share of the hall, but the backs met solid tackling. From a line-out the Grammar forwards took ; play to the Central goal-line, a free kick giving needed relief. George, of Grammar, looked dangerous when ho intercepted, but his pass went astray. Truscott secured the ball from a scrum shortly afterwards and went around the blind side for a good try. Patlison evened the score with a fine penalty goal and then McKinnon forced through to Grammar’s goalline. where, from a scrum. Lane secured and side-stepped his way over for a fine try, and half-time came with Central leading G —3. Even play followed the interval, and then from a forward rush Alach scored a try which put Central further in the lead. Grammar came back for Hull to score from a passing rush. A Central forward rush ended near the Grammar goal-line, where the defence infringed and Alderton kicked a penalty goal. Truscott, the Grammar first fiveeighths. played brilliantly throughout the game and was the best back on the field. Pattison and Lane being the best of the Central rear-guard. The forwards were evenly matched, Holmes being Central's best.
